Symptoms: a. The car will idle nicely at 750 rpms UNTIL the crankcase cap is removed (which can be removed with a little more than normal twisting pressue), OR if the oil dipstick is removed, then during both of those conditions the car does rev to 1,250 then settles back down. b.
Aberdeenshire. Mar 12, 2017. #1. On my B8.5 A4 Allroad it's developed a water leak on the passenger side footwell. Not impressed. It's got a panoramic sunroof, so I checked the drain holes and ran strummer nylon down the holes, and tried warm water and it runs clear. I also checked the plenum area in front of the bulkhead.
I am in the process of purchasing a 2004 B6 S4 Sedan with a manual transmission. I would like to have the input of as many users of the site as possible about problems that are common to the B6 S4 and also any items I should pay close attention to when inspecting the mechanicals of the car.
Expect to change items near roughly 100K like Water pump, Thermostadt, and PCV (Pressure Control Valve). While this is routine for all cars, in the S4 these all require removal of the Supercharger / Throttle Body Assembly. What is normally a 1 hour job for most cars is about a 8-10 hour job for the S4 because of their location / access.
I don't see many of these cars on the road, probably because people don't know about some of these common problems! I hope this short video helps.
